Borders, Weeding & Planting

Tidy borders, kept on top of weeds, full of colour

A cut lawn looks twice as good with neat borders behind it. This is the planting-side work: keeping the beds weeded, mulched and full, putting in seasonal colour, and stopping the borders turning into the place weeds take over. It's the difference between a garden that's just maintained and one that looks properly looked after.

Weeding that actually lasts

The trick with weeds is little and often, not one big blitz a year. We hand-weed the borders on each visit so nothing gets a chance to set seed and take over. A border that's kept on top of stays easy. One that's left for months becomes a real job.

Where it makes sense, we'll mulch the beds too. A good layer of mulch in spring, while the soil's still moist, smothers most weeds before they start and feeds the soil as it breaks down. It's one of those boring jobs that quietly saves you hours of weeding later.

Keeping beds healthy through the year

Borders change through the seasons and so does the work. Spring is cutting back last year's growth, mulching and getting ahead of the weeds. Summer is deadheading and keeping things in check. Autumn is tidying spent growth and putting beds to rest. We fold all of that into a regular visit so the borders always look intentional rather than left.

We'll also lift and divide perennials that have got too big, which keeps them flowering well and gives you more plants for free.

Seasonal colour and planting

If you like a bit of colour, we can plant up seasonal bedding for spring and summer, get spring bulbs in during autumn, and keep pots and containers topped up and looking good. Nothing grand unless you want it, just the planting that keeps a garden cheerful through the year. Tell us the look you're after and we'll sort it.

Frequently asked questions

By staying on top of them. We hand-weed the borders on each regular visit so nothing sets seed and takes hold, and we mulch the beds where it helps. Little and often keeps a border easy. It's leaving it for months that turns weeding into a big job.

Mulch is a layer of bark, compost or similar spread over the soil in the borders. Put down in spring while the soil's moist, it smothers weeds before they start and feeds the soil as it rots down. It's one of the most useful jobs there is for cutting down future work.

Yes. We do seasonal bedding for spring and summer, plant spring bulbs in autumn, and keep containers topped up. Tell us the sort of look and colour you like and we'll put it together.

That's a lot of what we do. We'll clear out the weeds and dead growth, cut back and reshape what's worth keeping, mulch the beds, and get them back to something you can be proud of. Then it's easy to keep them that way with regular visits.
