School grounds maintenance in Brockham
Field mowing, boundary hedges and holiday tidy-ups, planned around lessons and playtimes.
School grounds maintenance in Brockham means working around children. The village’s school is the Brockham site of North Downs Primary School on Wheelers Lane, one of three sites alongside Betchworth and Leigh. It became an academy in April 2025, as part of the EveryChild Partnership Trust.
We cut fields and verges, keep boundary hedges in check and clear paths, and plan the noisy work for when pupils are in lessons or away. Bigger jobs, like cutting back an overgrown boundary, go into half-terms or the summer holidays.
What we look after
- Playing field and verge mowing
- Boundary hedges and fence lines
- Shrub beds by entrances and car parks
- Paths kept clear of overhanging growth
- Holiday clearances and tidy-ups
- Leaf clearance from playgrounds and paths
- Paths and entrances gritted before the school day

Playing fields on Weald Clay
Geological mapping shows Wheelers Lane on Weald Clay mudstone, with no gravel layer on top. That matters for a playing field. Clay fields stay wet well into spring, so mowing has to wait for a dry spell, and a field mown wet in March stays rutted and muddy for weeks. In summer clay sets hard and cracks, so we lift the cutting height through June and July rather than shave it.
The edges need watching too. Boundary hedges grow hard on clay, and a hedge leaning over the footpath outside the gate is the first thing parents notice at pick-up. We cut those in the holidays where we can, with the main work kept outside nesting season.
A school grounds maintenance contract that fits the school year
We write the schedule around your term dates: regular cuts in term time, hedges outside the nesting season, leaf clearance from playgrounds and paths in autumn, and project days in the holidays. You get a fixed annual price invoiced monthly or quarterly, and insurance certificates on request. We follow your sign-in and safeguarding procedures on every visit. If the trust already has a specification for its other schools, we’ll price against that.
Schools and academies in Brockham: your questions
Anything else, just ring. You’ll speak to the people who do the work.
Can you work when the children aren’t outside?
Yes. We’ll agree times with the office, usually first thing or during lessons, and keep mowers well away from playtimes and pick-up.
Do you take on holiday projects only?
Yes. Some schools already have regular cutting arranged and just need a clearance or a hedge reduction in the holidays. We’re happy to do that.
Can you quote across more than one school site?
Yes. If you look after several sites, we can price them on one schedule. Brockham, Betchworth and Leigh are all within our area.
