Churchyard and parish grounds maintenance
Churchyards and community grounds cut with care, for churches, parish councils and village spaces around Horley.
Churchyards and community spaces need careful, respectful work: mowing round old headstones without chipping them, keeping paths clear for visitors and funerals, and leaving the wilder areas alone if that’s what your parish wants.
We’re happy to work to an existing parish specification or cutting regime, including cut-and-collect areas and wildflower patches that are only mown at the end of summer.
What we look after
- Churchyard paths and mown areas
- Careful strimming round headstones
- Hedges and boundary walls kept clear
- Village greens and verges
- Wildflower areas on a late-summer cut
- Leaf clearance from paths and porches
- Church paths gritted ahead of services in icy weather

Respectful working
We plan around services, weddings and funerals, and we’ll always check the diary with your churchwarden or parish office. Around graves we strim carefully by hand rather than risk damaging stones or memorials.
Working with councils
For parish and town councils we can quote against a written specification and schedule. We’re a local family business, and parish grounds and churchyards are work we take real care over.
How a contract works.
The same simple process for every site.
Walk-round
We meet you on site, walk the grounds, and note what matters: the frontage people see first, the awkward bits, access times and anything residents or staff have complained about.
Schedule and price
You get a written schedule for the year listing every task and how often it happens, with one fixed price. Itemised, so it’s easy to compare quotes or take to a board.
Regular visits
We start on an agreed date and visit on the agreed days. The same team is on site every time, so the people doing the work are the people you spoke to.
Review
Once a year we walk the site with you again, look at what worked and what didn’t, and adjust the schedule for the next season.
Questions people ask
Anything else, just ring. You’ll speak to the people who do the work.
Can you leave parts of the churchyard long for wildlife?
Yes. Plenty of churchyards now keep meadow areas, and we’re happy to mow paths through them and cut the long grass once a year in late summer.
Do you do tree work in churchyards?
No. We’re not tree surgeons. Churchyard trees often need consent before any work, so we’ll point you to a qualified arborist.
Can you quote for a parish council tender?
Yes. Send us the specification and we’ll price it properly.
