Lawn Mowing & Grass Cutting in East Grinstead

Grass cutting in East Grinstead

Striped, edged lawns on East Grinstead’s slopes, cut at a height that suits the soil underneath.

Grass cutting in East Grinstead is rarely a flat job. The town sits up on a sandstone ridge and its suburbs run down the slopes on every side, so plenty of lawns here tilt, step down a level or finish in a bank. We cut with rear-roller Hayter mowers for proper stripes, trim every edge, and take each clipping away.

We’re a Horley team, seven miles west, and we’ve been doing this since 2004. If you’ve been hunting for local grass cutting services and keep finding people who disappear after a month, we’re the opposite: the same faces every visit, weekly or fortnightly, on a day picked to suit the weather.

What we do

  • Regular weekly, fortnightly or monthly grass cutting
  • Striped finish with a rear-roller mower
  • Crisp edging along paths, borders and driveways
  • Strimming around trees, posts, fences and obstacles
  • All clippings collected and taken away, every visit
  • Cutting height adjusted through the seasons and in dry spells

Lawn Mowing & Grass Cutting in East Grinstead

Mowing a lawn that slopes

A sloping lawn takes more thought than a flat one. Mow straight down a steep fall and the mower scalps the brow and leaves the dip shaggy. So we cut across where it’s safe, keep the height up on the humps that dry out first, and strim the really steep banks rather than risk the turf or the machine. Terraced gardens with steps between levels take longer to get round, and we allow for that in the quote. Plenty of lawn mowing services quietly skip the steep gardens. We’d rather take them on, and the finish should be every bit as tidy as a flat lawn.

Grass cutting in East Grinstead on sand and clay

The soils round East Grinstead alternate between sand and clay, and the lawns show it. On the sandier ground grass goes straw-coloured within days of a dry spell in July, so we raise the cut and leave more leaf to shade the roots. Over a band of clay the reverse happens: the lawn stays soft into spring and a mower leaves ruts if you rush it. We don’t cut wet or frozen grass anywhere in town. Fortnightly suits most lawns here for most of the year, with weekly cuts in May and June if you like it sharp.

Lawn Mowing in East Grinstead: your questions

Anything else, just ring. You’ll speak to the people who do the work.

How much is grass cutting in East Grinstead?

That depends on the size of the lawn, how steep it is and how easily we can get a mower to it. Regular visits work out better value than one-off cuts. We’ll come and have a look, then give you a fixed price.

Can you get a mower into a terraced or sloping garden?

Usually, yes. If the only way in is down a flight of steps or through the house, mention it when you ring and we’ll plan around it. Banks too steep to mow safely get strimmed instead.

Is there any point mowing during a drought?

Less often, and higher. On sandy ground we might drop to fortnightly and leave the grass longer so it shades its own roots. It greens up far quicker once the rain comes back than a lawn that’s been scalped.
