Garden weeding in Horsham
Hand-weeded, mulched and well-kept borders for Horsham gardens, through every season.
Garden weeding in Horsham is a slog because the soil is generous. Loam over clay holds moisture and nutrients, which is lovely for roses and hard work for anyone fighting bindweed and creeping buttercup. Leave a border alone for six weeks in May and it isn’t really a border any more. We hand-weed regularly, roots and all, so the job shrinks visit by visit.
Then we keep the beds looking cared for: mulching, cutting back, lifting and dividing tired perennials, and planting bulbs and seasonal bedding. It’s border maintenance done steadily, a little every time, which in our view beats one exhausting blitz a year.
What we do
- Regular hand-weeding of borders and beds
- Mulching to suppress weeds and feed the soil
- Cutting back and tidying through the seasons
- Lifting and dividing overgrown perennials
- Seasonal bedding, bulb planting and container care
- Bringing neglected borders back to order

Garden weeding in Horsham gets easier with mulch
If we could change one habit in Horsham gardens, it would be mulching. A thick layer of compost or bark in late winter, while the soil is still damp, smothers weed seedlings, holds water through a dry summer and slowly improves the clay underneath. Clay sets hard and cracks when it dries, and bare soil does it fastest. A mulched border stays workable. We’ll top it up once a year and weed through it in between, which keeps the weeding light.
Small front gardens and long back borders
Around Denne Road, many houses have only a small front garden behind a brick wall, and every weed shows. A quick, regular weed and tidy keeps them looking right. In the older roads further out, long back gardens often have borders running much of the length of the plot, planted years ago and now crowded. There we’d lift and divide congested perennials in autumn or spring, replant the best pieces and put something new in the gaps.
Borders & Planting in Horsham: your questions
Anything else, just ring. You’ll speak to the people who do the work.
How do you deal with the weeds?
We hand-weed borders, roots and all, and use mulch to keep new ones down. If there’s a specific problem, like bindweed coming through a hedge, we’ll talk through the options with you.
How often do borders need weeding?
Every two to three weeks in late spring and summer, when weeds grow fastest, and less often in winter. On regular visits it’s simply part of the round.
Can you plant up a border as well as weed it?
Yes, within reason. We plant bulbs, seasonal bedding and replacement perennials, and divide what’s already there. We’re not landscapers, so new layouts and hard landscaping aren’t for us.
Can you just do the weeding and leave the rest?
Yes. Some people only want weeding services, often because they enjoy mowing their own lawn. We’ll visit every few weeks through the growing season and keep the borders clear.
