Hedge trimming in Lingfield
Garden hedges and field-edge boundaries round Lingfield, cut at the right time and cleared away.
Hedge trimming in Lingfield often means two kinds of hedge in one garden. There’s the neat one at the front, privet, laurel or beech, and the scruffier one at the back where the plot meets a field or a copse. The village sits in Green Belt countryside, so plenty of houses have both.
For hedge cutting in Lingfield we check every hedge for nests before we start, keep the big cuts and reductions to September to February, and take all the trimmings away. Laurel gets cut with secateurs so the leaves don’t brown at the edges. If next door wants their side done the same day, we can usually fit it in.
What we do
- Regular hedge cutting on a schedule that suits the species
- One-off cuts to bring overgrown hedges back under control
- All types: privet, laurel, leylandii, box, beech, hornbeam, yew and more
- Height and width reductions, staged where needed
- Laurel cut by hand so the leaves don’t brown
- Nesting birds checked before any work, all cuttings cleared away

Hedge cutting season in the UK, and why it matters out here
The Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 makes it an offence to damage an active nest. Lingfield is surrounded by woodland and farmland, with Gratwick Wood, Carewell Wood and Matthew’s Wood all on the parish walks, and birds treat garden hedges as an extension of all that. So the hedge cutting season for us runs through autumn and winter. A light summer trim only happens after a proper look inside, and if there’s a nest, that stretch is left alone.
Hedge trimming in Lingfield’s conservation area
The conservation area takes in the High Street, Gun Pond and Church Town, roughly 18.7 hectares with 25 listed buildings. Front hedges there are part of how the streets look, so an even, sharp cut matters more than usual. Routine hedge trimming doesn’t need permission. Trees in a conservation area are different, needing six weeks’ notice to the council before any work. If something in your hedge line has grown into a tree, we’ll point it out and leave it for an arborist.
Hedge Trimming in Lingfield: your questions
Anything else, just ring. You’ll speak to the people who do the work.
What’s the usual hedge trimming cost?
Length, height, species and how far it’s got away from you all count. A front privet is quick. A tall conifer boundary along a field takes far longer. We’ll look and give you a fixed price with waste removal included.
Can you cut a hedge that backs onto a field?
Yes, if we can reach the far side safely and the landowner is happy. If we can only get to your side, we’ll cut that face and the top, and tell you what’s been left.
Can a tall leylandii be brought back down?
Only within the green growth. Leylandii won’t regrow from bare brown wood, so cutting into it leaves a dead face for good. If it’s past that point, we’ll say so plainly.
