School grounds maintenance in Oxted

Fields, hedges and paths for Oxted and Hurst Green schools, worked around the school day.

Oxted has a long list of schools for a town its size. Oxted School opened in 1929 as Surrey’s first co-educational grammar school. St Mary’s CofE Primary has around 660 pupils since merging with Downs Way in 2018, and Hurst Green Infant School and Holland Junior School serve the south of town. School grounds maintenance in Oxted has to fit around all of it.

We cut fields and verges, keep boundary hedges back from paths and fences, and save the noisy jobs for when pupils are inside or away. Bigger clear-ups go into half-terms and the summer holidays, when the site is quiet and we can work without restrictions.

What we look after

  • Playing field and verge mowing
  • Boundary hedges and fence lines
  • Shrub beds by entrances and car parks
  • Paths kept clear of overhanging growth
  • Holiday clearances and tidy-ups
  • Leaf clearance from playgrounds and paths
  • Paths and entrances gritted before the school day

More about schools and academies

Schools and academies in Oxted

School grass cutting on two kinds of ground

School fields in the centre of Oxted and those in Hurst Green behave very differently. On the sandy greensand around the middle of town, grass dries out and wears thin in a hot summer term, so we cut higher from June and avoid scalping the worn patches. On the Weald Clay further south, fields stay soft through winter and rut if they’re mown wet. We watch the ground as well as the calendar and move a cut by a few days rather than leave tracks.

School grounds maintenance around the school year

On arrival we sign in at reception, wear a visitor badge and stay inside the areas your site manager has agreed. In term time it’s regular cutting and quick tidy visits, timed before school, after pupils leave or while classes are indoors. Holidays are for the bigger jobs: overgrown boundaries, neglected corners and hedge reductions, ideally in the October and February half-terms once nesting has finished.

Schools and academies in Oxted: your questions

Anything else, just ring. You’ll speak to the people who do the work.

Will you take on a school grounds maintenance contract?

Yes. Send us your specification and we’ll price it, or we’ll draft one with your business manager. The price is fixed for the year and invoiced monthly or quarterly.

Do you clear leaves from school paths in autumn?

Yes. Oak and chestnut leaves come down heavily round Oxted from October, so we clear paths, steps and playground edges on every autumn visit and take the leaves away.

Can you look after more than one school site?

Yes. If a trust or federation has schools in Oxted and the villages around, we can put them on one schedule and one invoice.

Who will be on site?

The same team every visit, so your office and site staff always know who to expect at the gate.

Walk the site with us.

We’ll come out, look at the grounds with you and send a written schedule and a fixed price for the year.
