Grass cutting in Redhill
Weekly or fortnightly mowing for Redhill lawns, whether they sit on sand or clay.
Grass cutting in Redhill isn’t one job, it’s two. Much of the town sits on the Greensand Ridge, where sandy soil drains fast and a lawn cut short scorches in a dry July. South of St Johns the sand gives way to Wealden clay, which stays soft well into spring. We mow each lawn for the ground it’s actually growing on.
Every cut is done with a rear-roller Hayter mower, so you get a proper striped finish, and the edges are trimmed on each visit. All the clippings leave with us. It’s a residential lawn mowing service with the same team every time, working Monday to Saturday.
What we do
- Regular weekly, fortnightly or monthly grass cutting
- Striped finish with a rear-roller mower
- Crisp edging along paths, borders and driveways
- Strimming around trees, posts, fences and obstacles
- All clippings collected and taken away, every visit
- Cutting height adjusted through the seasons and in dry spells

Lawn mowing in Redhill when the sand dries out
On light greensand, cutting height is everything. Take a lawn down to half an inch in June and it has no leaf left to shade its roots, so it browns within a week of dry weather. We lift the blades as summer goes on and drop to fortnightly visits in a drought. The lawn looks a little shaggier for a few weeks. It also stays green longer than the scalped one over the fence, and it recovers faster when the rain comes back. On sandy ground, that’s the trade we’d recommend every time.
Grass cutting on steep plots and gardens with no side gate
Redhill isn’t flat. The land climbs steeply east of the railway arch, and St Johns is built on sandstone hillocks, so plenty of lawns here slope or step down in tiers. Banks too steep to mow safely get strimmed instead. The Victorian streets that grew up round the station often have no side access, which means the mower comes through the house. That’s fine, it happens a lot. Mention it when you ring and we’ll plan the visit around it.
Lawn Mowing in Redhill: your questions
Anything else, just ring. You’ll speak to the people who do the work.
How much does grass cutting cost in Redhill?
It depends on the size of the lawn, how easy it is to reach and how often you want us. A regular round costs less per cut than a one-off visit. We’ll take a look and give you a fixed price.
Do you cut lawns when it’s wet?
No. On the clay south of St Johns, a wet lawn squashes and tears, and that compaction turns into moss the following spring. We move the visit to the next dry day and let you know. Frozen grass is left alone too.
Is there someone doing grass cutting near me in Merstham or Earlswood?
Yes, us. We cover the whole of RH1, Merstham and Earlswood included, and about 15 miles around our base in Horley. A small front lawn is no trouble to fit into the round.
