Seasonal Garden Services in Brockham

Leaf clearance and seasonal work in Brockham

Autumn leaves, winter pruning and spring cut-backs, timed to Brockham’s soils and its busy November.

Leaf clearance in Brockham turns into a big job in a wet November. Leaves pile up on lawns, block drains and make paths slippery, and a clay lawn smothered under wet leaves for a month comes out yellow and mossy. We clear lawns, beds, paths and patios, and take the lot away with us.

Leaves are one season of four. A garden wants different things in March than in October, and we plan the whole year around that. Regular customers get the seasonal jobs built into their visits, and anyone else can book them one at a time: a spring tidy, say, or an autumn clear-out.

What we do

  • Spring: cutting back, first cuts, mulching, getting ahead of weeds
  • Summer: regular upkeep, deadheading, late-summer hedge cuts
  • Autumn: leaf clearance, planting, major hedge reductions
  • Winter: dormant hedge renovation, rose pruning, mulching
  • One-off seasonal jobs as well as regular contracts
  • All seasonal work built into regular maintenance at no extra charge

Seasonal Garden Services in Brockham

An autumn garden tidy up before the bonfire

Brockham’s bonfire is held on the Saturday nearest 5 November, and it’s been recorded on the green since 1886. Around 20,000 people come, and the roads round the green are full for the evening. If you live close to it, an autumn garden tidy up in the last week of October makes sense: hedges finished, leaves off the lawn, paths clear and safe for visitors. We’ll keep well away on the day itself.

Seasonal garden maintenance after the leaf clearance

Winter is for structure: rose pruning, renovating overgrown shrubs and hedges while birds aren’t nesting, and mulching beds. Spring means cutting back old perennial stems, the first high mow and getting ahead of the weeds. On the clay we wait until the ground can take a footstep without squelching. Summer is upkeep, deadheading and a careful eye on dry lawns, particularly on the sandy side of the river, where grass browns first. Late summer is also when beech and hornbeam hedges get their one cut of the year.

Seasonal Services in Brockham: your questions

Anything else, just ring. You’ll speak to the people who do the work.

Is one leaf clearance visit enough?

Rarely. Two or three between late October and early December usually does it, depending on the trees around you. One visit right at the end leaves the lawn under wet leaves for weeks, which is the very thing we’re trying to prevent.

Do you do a single spring tidy-up?

Yes. Cutting back, weeding, edging and a first mow can all be done in one visit. Plenty of people book a spring and an autumn visit and manage the summer themselves.

I already have regular visits. Do seasonal jobs cost extra?

No. If you have us regularly, the seasonal jobs are built into your visits, so there’s nothing separate to book.
