Leaf clearance in Newdigate

Autumn leaves, winter jobs and spring cut backs, timed for Newdigate’s clay and copses.

Leaf clearance in Newdigate is a serious autumn job. In 1911 the parish was described as still thickly wooded, and copses such as Reffolds, Furzefield and Hammonds are still there. If your garden backs onto trees, you’ll know what November looks like. Wet leaves left on a lawn smother the grass and invite moss, and on paths they turn into a slippery mat.

We clear lawns, beds, paths and drives, and take the leaves away. Leaves are only one of the jobs that come round each year, though. We plan the rest around the seasons too, so the garden gets what it needs in the month it needs it.

What we do

  • Spring: cutting back, first cuts, mulching, getting ahead of weeds
  • Summer: regular upkeep, deadheading, late-summer hedge cuts
  • Autumn: leaf clearance, planting, major hedge reductions
  • Winter: dormant hedge renovation, rose pruning, mulching
  • One-off seasonal jobs as well as regular contracts
  • All seasonal work built into regular maintenance at no extra charge

More about seasonal services

Seasonal Garden Services in Newdigate

Leaf clearance in Newdigate is only the start

Clay sets the calendar for seasonal garden maintenance here. In spring we wait for the ground to dry before treading on the borders, then cut back, weed and mulch. Summer is upkeep, with the lighter hedge trims in late summer. The autumn garden tidy up covers leaves, cutting back perennials and the main hedge cuts once nesting is over. Winter is for structural work: rose pruning, renovating tired shrubs and mulching, on days when the ground isn’t sodden or frozen.

Four season garden maintenance or one-off visits?

You can book a single autumn visit to clear the leaves and put the garden to bed, or a spring one to wake it up. But big gardens do better on a regular schedule that shifts with the year. That’s what four season garden maintenance means to us: no separate booking for each job, and seasonal work folded into regular visits at no extra charge. If leaves are the worry, ring us in September. Diaries fill quickly once the first autumn gale has been through.

Seasonal Services in Newdigate: your questions

Anything else, just ring. You’ll speak to the people who do the work.

When should leaves come off the lawn?

Little and often, starting in late October. A week of wet leaves is enough to yellow the grass underneath, so a couple of clearances through autumn beats one big one in December.

Can I leave leaves on the borders?

On beds, a thin layer is fine and the worms will pull it in. On lawns and paths, no. We’ll clear where it matters and leave a little where it helps.

What’s in an autumn garden tidy up?

Leaf clearance, cutting back spent perennials, a last lawn cut at a raised height and the main hedge cuts once nesting has finished. Everything is taken away at the end.
