Seasonal Garden Services in Copthorne

Seasonal garden maintenance in Copthorne

The right job at the right time of year for Copthorne gardens, once or regularly.

Seasonal garden maintenance in Copthorne is mostly about leaves. Woodland and common wrap most of the way round the village, and the neighbourhood plan even calls it a green ring. Every autumn a good share of it ends up on Copthorne lawns. Leave a thick layer there through winter and the grass underneath yellows and turns mossy.

So we time the work to the season. Autumn is leaf clearance and getting the garden ready for winter. Winter is the heavy hedge and shrub work. Spring is cutting back and waking things up. Any of it can be booked once, or built into a regular visit.

What we do

  • Spring: cutting back, first cuts, mulching, getting ahead of weeds
  • Summer: regular upkeep, deadheading, late-summer hedge cuts
  • Autumn: leaf clearance, planting, major hedge reductions
  • Winter: dormant hedge renovation, rose pruning, mulching
  • One-off seasonal jobs as well as regular contracts
  • All seasonal work built into regular maintenance at no extra charge

Seasonal Garden Services in Copthorne

Leaf clearance and an autumn garden tidy up near the woods

Leaf clearance here usually takes two or three visits, not one, because the trees don’t all drop at once. We blow and rake lawns, beds and paths, and clear drives where wet leaves turn slippery. Some go on the compost if you want leaf mould. The rest leave with us. While we’re there we cut back perennials that have finished, give the lawn a last high cut and tidy the edges, so the garden goes into winter looking sharp.

Seasonal garden maintenance in the dormant months

Winter is when we do the big hedge reductions, well outside the nesting season, and prune roses. It’s also mulching time, while the ground is damp. On slightly acid soil, leaf mould or bark suits the camellias and rhododendrons nicely. Come March, we cut back ornamental grasses and late perennials, give the borders a first weed and take a high first cut off the lawn once it’s dry enough to walk on. A good start in spring saves weeks of catching up in May.

Seasonal Services in Copthorne: your questions

Anything else, just ring. You’ll speak to the people who do the work.

When should leaves be cleared off a lawn?

As they fall, ideally every couple of weeks through October and November. A thin scatter does little harm, but a thick, wet mat left for weeks blocks the light and invites moss.

Can I book a one-off autumn garden maintenance visit?

Yes. Lots of people look after the garden themselves in summer and want help with the autumn clear-down. We’ll book one visit or a few, depending on how many trees overhang your garden.

Is seasonal work included in regular maintenance?

Yes. If you’re on a regular round, seasonal jobs are part of it at no extra charge. We simply shift what we do each visit as the year turns.
