Seasonal garden maintenance in Redhill
The right garden jobs at the right time of year, planned around Redhill’s sand and clay.
Seasonal garden maintenance in Redhill has a quirk. On the sandy greensand the soil warms and dries early, so those lawns are often ready for a first cut sooner than clay lawns further south. They’re also first to suffer when summer turns dry. So we plan the year garden by garden, not by the calendar alone.
In practice that means cutting back and mulching in early spring, regular upkeep and deadheading through summer, leaf clearance in autumn, and dormant-season hedge and rose work in winter. For maintenance customers it’s all built in. Anyone else can book seasonal jobs one at a time.
What we do
- Spring: cutting back, first cuts, mulching, getting ahead of weeds
- Summer: regular upkeep, deadheading, late-summer hedge cuts
- Autumn: leaf clearance, planting, major hedge reductions
- Winter: dormant hedge renovation, rose pruning, mulching
- One-off seasonal jobs as well as regular contracts
- All seasonal work built into regular maintenance at no extra charge

Seasonal garden maintenance near the commons: leaf clearance
Redhill has a lot of trees for a town. Earlswood Common alone covers 89 hectares with woodland and scattered trees, and Redhill Common runs down the hillside to London Road. Gardens nearby catch the fall from late October well into December. Left on a lawn, a mat of wet leaves blocks the light and yellows the grass within a few weeks. We clear lawns, beds and paths right through autumn. Pine needles are slower to cause harm, but they still want raking off the grass.
An autumn garden tidy up, then winter work
An autumn garden tidy up is the most useful visit of the year. We cut spent perennials back, leaving some seed heads for the birds if you like, plant spring bulbs, and give the lawn its last cut on a higher setting. Then in winter, with the nesting season over and plants dormant, we get on with hedge reductions, rose pruning and mulching, ready for March.
Seasonal Services in Redhill: your questions
Anything else, just ring. You’ll speak to the people who do the work.
When does seasonal lawn maintenance start in spring?
Usually late March, sometimes a little earlier on light sandy soil that has dried out. We set the mower high for that first pass and only take the tips. Clay lawns often wait until April, when they’re firm enough to walk on without leaving prints.
Can I book leaf clearance as a one-off?
Yes. Plenty of people living near the commons book one or two autumn visits just for leaves. Regular customers get it automatically.
Why do some jobs wait until winter?
Deciduous hedges are easiest to reshape when they’re bare and dormant, and there are no nesting birds to worry about. Roses get their main prune in late winter. Doing these at the right time gives far better results.
