Leaf clearance and seasonal work in Nutfield

Autumn leaves, spring cut-backs and winter jobs, each done at the right moment for your soil.

Leaf clearance in Nutfield is the job that announces autumn. Older gardens on the hill have mature trees, the lanes are lined with them, and by late October a lawn can disappear under a wet brown layer. Leave it there and the grass yellows. Leave it on paths and steps and somebody slips.

Seasonal jobs are built into our regular visits at no extra charge, so they happen when they should without you booking anything. They’re also available one at a time if you’d rather look after the rest yourself. The waste always goes with us.

What we do

  • Spring: cutting back, first cuts, mulching, getting ahead of weeds
  • Summer: regular upkeep, deadheading, late-summer hedge cuts
  • Autumn: leaf clearance, planting, major hedge reductions
  • Winter: dormant hedge renovation, rose pruning, mulching
  • One-off seasonal jobs as well as regular contracts
  • All seasonal work built into regular maintenance at no extra charge

More about seasonal services

Seasonal Garden Services in Nutfield

Leaf clearance in Nutfield, then the autumn tidy up

Autumn is our busiest season in the village. Leaves come off the lawns first, every visit or every other one through October and November. Then the main hedge cuts, now nesting has finished. Then an autumn garden tidy up in the borders: cutting back what’s died down, leaving seedheads that look good or feed the birds, lifting and dividing perennials, and laying a fresh mulch. On the clay in South Nutfield we pick firm days, so we’re not churning up wet ground.

Seasonal garden maintenance on two soils

Spring arrives at different times across the parish. On the greensand round the church and High Street, the soil warms and dries early, and lawn cuts and planting can often begin in March. In South Nutfield the clay stays cold and wet for longer, so we start with jobs that don’t need the ground: cutting back last year’s grasses, pruning late-flowering shrubs, mulching. Winter work like rose pruning and renovating overgrown hedges waits for dormancy, wherever you live.

Seasonal Services in Nutfield: your questions

Anything else, just ring. You’ll speak to the people who do the work.

How often do you clear leaves?

Through October and November, usually every visit or every other one, depending on the trees near you. Gardens under big overhanging trees need more.

Do I need to book seasonal jobs separately?

No, not on a regular visit. They’re part of the schedule already. Otherwise we’ll quote each job as a one-off.

When should I get the garden ready for spring?

Pruning and mulching can start in late February and run into March. On clay, hold off on lawn work until the soil stops sticking to your boots. On the sandier ground up the hill, you can usually start sooner.

Can you do a one-off autumn tidy before winter?

Yes. A single visit in late October or November to clear leaves, cut back the borders and trim hedges sets a garden up nicely for winter. It’s a popular job with people who look after the rest of the year themselves.
