Leaf clearance and seasonal care in Bletchingley
Autumn leaf clearance, winter hedge work and spring wake-ups, done when the garden needs them.
Leaf clearance in Bletchingley gets serious from late October. Plenty of gardens sit under mature trees, and on Outwood Lane many houses are screened by a dense belt of them. Leaves left on a lawn for a few weeks smother the grass underneath. On paths and brick steps they turn slippery fast.
Seasonal work is how we plan the whole year, though. Spring wakes the garden up, summer is about keeping pace, autumn clears it down and winter is for structural jobs like hedge reductions and rose pruning. Regular customers get all of it built into their visits.
What we do
- Spring: cutting back, first cuts, mulching, getting ahead of weeds
- Summer: regular upkeep, deadheading, late-summer hedge cuts
- Autumn: leaf clearance, planting, major hedge reductions
- Winter: dormant hedge renovation, rose pruning, mulching
- One-off seasonal jobs as well as regular contracts
- All seasonal work built into regular maintenance at no extra charge

An autumn garden tidy up on the ridge
Autumn on greensand is kind to gardeners. The soil stays workable when clay gardens further south are already sticky, so it’s a good time to plant, divide perennials and mulch while the ground is still warm. A typical autumn garden tidy up here means clearing leaves from lawns and beds, cutting back collapsed perennials, a last high cut of the grass and sweeping paths. Steps and old paving come first, because wet leaves on them are a fall waiting to happen.
Seasonal garden maintenance for winter and spring
Winter is when the main hedge cuts happen, outside nesting season, and when roses are pruned and tired shrubs renovated. Spring starts with a high first cut once the grass is growing, which on sandy lawns up here can be a week or two ahead of clay. Then it’s mulching, edging and getting ahead of weeds before they seed. Book a few seasonal visits, or roll them into regular maintenance. Either works.
Seasonal Services in Bletchingley: your questions
Anything else, just ring. You’ll speak to the people who do the work.
How often should leaves be cleared?
Every week or two at the peak, usually late October into late November. One big clear at the very end leaves the lawn yellow and mossy underneath, so it’s better done in a few passes.
Can I book a one-off autumn garden clean up?
Yes. A single autumn garden clean up before winter is a sensible one-off. We clear leaves, cut back, tidy the beds and take it all away.
Do you clear leaves from drives and paths too?
Yes, paths, steps, patios and drives as well as lawns and beds. We bag them and take them away, so nothing’s left to blow back.
When’s the first lawn cut of the year up here?
Usually late March or early April on the sandy lawns near the High Street, a little later on clay further south. The first cut is a high one that just takes the tips off.
