A gardener for Epsom, clay side and chalk side
Regular garden care across Epsom, where the London Clay meets the chalk of the Downs.
If you’re after a gardener in Epsom, it helps to know which half of town your garden sits in. Epsom is a spring line town. The north, west and centre are on London Clay, the south and east climb onto the chalk of the North Downs, and thin bands of sand run between. Two gardens a mile apart can want quite different care.
We’re based in Horley, about 13 miles south, so Epsom is near the northern edge of the area we cover. We’d rather say that plainly. Regular work fits well, because we plan Epsom gardens into set days and keep them there. One-off jobs may need more notice than they would nearer home.
The housing is varied. There are Victorian cottages round Stamford Green, big walled gardens off Chalk Lane, interwar estates, and newer homes built inside the old hospital grounds at Horton and Long Grove. Each type of garden asks for something slightly different, and we plan visits around that.

What Epsom gardens ask for most
Most people book regular garden maintenance: the lawn, the edges, the borders and a hedge cut when it’s due. The soil decides how that plays out. The council’s own appraisal of Stamford Green says the clay there waterlogs in winter and dries right out in summer, so lawns on the west side need a careful hand in both seasons. Up towards the Downs the chalk drains fast and the soil is thin. Lawns brown quickly in a dry spell, and borders do far better with a good mulch to hold the moisture in.
Commercial grounds around the town
Epsom has more grounds to look after than its size suggests. There are academies and independent schools, the parish church and Christ Church on the Common, units on the Longmead Industrial Estate, and shared grounds on the converted hospital estates. For those sites we write an annual schedule, agree a fixed price and invoice monthly or quarterly. We’ll quote against a specification you already have, and insurance certificates are available on request.

Gardening in Epsom: your questions
Anything else, just ring. You’ll speak to the people who do the work.
Do you really come up as far as Epsom?
Yes. It’s about 13 miles from our base in Horley, which puts it near the edge of the roughly 15 miles we cover. We group Epsom visits on the same days, so regular work suits us best, and we’ll tell you straight away which day a one-off can be fitted in.
Do I need to be at home when you visit?
No. Plenty of people in Epsom are on a train to Waterloo or Victoria by the time we start. As long as we can get into the garden, you don’t need to be in.
How do I get a quote?
Ring 07720 886244 and we’ll arrange a time to walk the garden with you. The quote is free and the price is fixed. It depends on size, access and how often you’d like us.
