Your gardener in Edenbridge

Regular garden care across Edenbridge, Marlpit Hill and Marsh Green, ten miles east of our Horley base.

If you’re looking for a gardener in Edenbridge, we’re about ten miles away in Horley, just over the county line in Surrey. We’ve been doing this since 2004. The same team comes to every visit, we work Monday to Saturday, and all the clippings and cuttings leave with us. Most of our Edenbridge work is regular: lawns, hedges and beds on a fortnightly round.

It’s a town of about 8,000 people on a bend of the River Eden, with the greensand hills to the north and the High Weald rising to the south. The ground underneath is mostly Weald Clay. That clay decides a lot about how gardens here behave, and it’s why we plan visits around the weather rather than a fixed day.

The housing is a real mix. Timber-framed cottages line the old Roman road of the High Street. Then there are the post-war London County Council estates at Stangrove and Spitals Cross, leafy 1950s roads like Ridgeway with long gardens, and newer streets such as Oakley Park, where the first homes went up in 2019.

What Edenbridge gardens ask for most

Hedges, mostly. The council’s character study of the town keeps coming back to them: mature hedges along Crouch House Road, hedged front gardens on Ridgeway, low hedges and picket fences in front of the Stangrove terraces. On clay that holds water and feeds well, privet, laurel and beech put on a lot of growth, so a hedge cut once a year here often looks untidy by midsummer. Lawns come next. They sit wet after rain and bake hard in a dry August, so we mow higher than most people expect and stay off them when they’re sodden.

Gardens near the river

Edenbridge has a long history with the Eden. The 1958 and 1968 floods hit the High Street hard, and in December 2019 the river burst its banks again. Some houses on Hever Road back onto a raised flood bund. If your garden is in the low ground near the river, the lawn can stay soft for weeks after a wet spell. We’ll do the hedges and borders until it dries out.

Grounds care for businesses, schools and blocks

The industrial estates on Fircroft Way, Enterprise Way and Commerce Way date from the 1960s, built to give work to families arriving from London. Their verges and hedges need steady attention, as do schools, care homes and shared greens. For commercial sites we write an annual schedule, agree a fixed price and invoice monthly or quarterly. Certificates of insurance are yours on request.

Gardening in Edenbridge: your questions

Anything else, just ring. You’ll speak to the people who do the work.

Is Edenbridge too far out for you?

No. It’s about ten miles from our base in Horley, well inside the 15 miles or so we cover. That takes in the villages round the town too, such as Marsh Green and Marlpit Hill.

Will you mow my lawn after heavy rain?

Not if it’s sodden. Mowing wet clay squashes the soil and tears the grass, and the damage shows up as moss the next spring. We’ll do other jobs or move the visit to the next dry day, and let you know.

How do I get a quote?

Ring 07720 886244, Monday to Saturday between 7am and 6pm. We’ll come and walk round the garden with you and give you a fixed price. It’s free, and the figure depends on size, access and how often you’d like us.
